Stomp Out Allergies With Ai/E10

Springtime and Immune Support

As we enjoy the arrival of spring, for many it means the beginning of the aggravation of seasonal allergies. Allergies arise from an abnormal, but very common, immune system response to otherwise harmless substances in the environment. That suggests the importance of keeping our immune systems in top condition not only in the winter months but spring as well. Taking a supplement containing Ai/E10 everyday will help give your immune system the support it needs throughout the seasons. 50 mg twice a day or 100 mg once a day for general support.

Boosting Immunity - Good or Bad?

Dietary supplement products often claim that they "boost" immunity. We see that as a "stimulant" approach...."boost" immunity like you try to boost your awareness and even energy levels with caffeine in coffee, soda, etc. You won't see that claim made for Ai/E10. Ai/E10 works uniquely to help the immune system return to a state of "dynamic balance" by supporting immune communication, a goal stimulation will not accomplish. Stimulation may have its place at times and in moderation, but it will not help to support the immune imperatives of "recognition" and "remember." Only Ai/E10 supports immunity so effectively in such a simple and safe manner.

How is Ai/E10 Performance Measured?
Ai/E10 supports B, T and NK Cell activity more effectively than any other supplement product. Its further ability to help balance or "modulate" immune activity makes it right for everyone.

Taking a supplement containing Ai/E10 everyday will help give your immune system the support it needs. 50 mg twice a day or 100 mg once a day for general support.

The HPN Answer
Ai/E10 is the only ingredient in CELL BALANCE and the primary ingredient in CELL DESIGN. CELL BALANCE is the ONLY product on the market that contains 200 mg per capsule of Ai/E10. Cell Design is a powerful immune system supplement formulated with nine key herbal and amino acid compounds in combination with 160 mg of the refined lacteal complex Ai/E10 for immune system support. This proprietary formula is by far the most comprehensive immune formula available.

More Doctors Focus On Vitamin D Deficiencies

A basic medical exam produces some familiar numbers, clues to your overall health -- blood pressure readings, cholesterol counts.

Now a new number is getting marquee treatment: a vitamin D level.

Do you know yours?

In the past year, a test that checks vitamin D levels in the blood has surged in popularity among doctors.

This summer the Institute of Medicine is expected to revise its recommendation for daily vitamin D intake. Experts agree the current guidelines are far too low.

If you have symptoms that include fatigue and muscle aches and pains, don't be surprised if your doctor suggests a vitamin D blood test at your next visit. Because of widespread deficiencies, some won't need any symptoms to suggest it.

Vitamin D is important to bone and muscle health for certain, but vitamin D experts worry that D deficiency is implicated in cancers, autoimmune diseases, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, infections and depression, to name but a few ailments.

Carla Aamodt, an internal medicine doctor with St. Luke's Health System, said about half the patients she was testing were vitamin D deficient, with many more "borderline."

Michael Kennedy, a family physician at the University of Kansas Hospital, said a third to a half of the patients he tested in the past year were deficient.

Cardiologist James O'Keefe said general population statistics were worse. Lack of sun exposure, the natural way the body makes vitamin D, helps explain the deficiencies.

"Upwards of 70 percent of American adults are vitamin D deficient or insufficient," said O'Keefe, director of the preventive cardiology program at St. Luke's Mid-America Heart Institute. "In the last year, awareness of vitamin D deficiency has really exploded."

Doctors want to see a level of at least 30. That's nanograms per milliliter. Some prefer a minimum of 40. Levels in the low to mid-20s aren't unusual, and both Aamodt and Kennedy have had patients with levels under 5 ng/mL.

Billie Howard Barnes of Kansas City knows how that feels. The fourth-grade teacher at Pembroke Hill School had her vitamin D checked two months ago -- doctor-recommended and nothing she had considered before -- and was surprised by the call she got.

"The nurse says: 'I believe this is the lowest level we've ever had. Yours is 5.' "

Barnes is African-American, and people with darker skin, she learned, are at a higher risk of vitamin D deficiency.

"I'm 43, and getting up in the morning, my feet would hit the floor and every joint in my body was sore," she said. "I didn't realize how bad it had gotten. It just kind of crept up on me."

After several weeks of a high prescription dose of a vitamin D supplement, Barnes said she could tell a difference.

"It wasn't an instant thing, but I just feel much better. I'm not as stiff. Colleagues say there's more pep in my step," said Barnes, mother of 10-year-old twins. "And I'll tell you, my children are taking 1,000 IU (international units) a day now."

Of course, the potential wonders of other vitamins have been heralded before, only to be debunked or downplayed later.

But O'Keefe and others point out that D is unlike other vitamins and should be recognized for what it is: a hormone.

"Vitamin D is misnamed," he said.

Although there are food sources of vitamin D, its natural production takes place inside the body after the skin is exposed to sunlight. As a hormone, vitamin D helps regulate gene function throughout the body, so its implication in various body functions and disease processes makes sense. Its strong roles in bone and muscle health and in aiding calcium absorption have long been known.

The process nature intended -- ultraviolet rays on exposed skin equals vitamin D production -- would be the most likely method to remedy deficiencies except for two matters. People aren't out in the sun enough. And if they were, they would increase their risk of skin cancer.

"We're doing such a good job putting on sunscreen and being cautious because of skin cancer that we kind of left vitamin D out of the equation," Kennedy said.

That was then. Responding to an array of vitamin D research in the medical literature, Kennedy said he now regularly informed patients about the possibility of D deficiencies, and he often suggests ordering the blood test.

The test is called "25-hydroxy vitamin D," costs about $100 and may or may not be covered by insurance. O'Keefe said in the past year it had become the most popular "a la carte" blood test doctors were ordering.

If a patient is deficient, levels usually can be increased with vitamin D supplements, typically in pill form. Food sources of vitamin D, such as ocean fish and fortified milk, typically can't be consumed in enough quantities to do the trick.

For borderline and slight deficiencies, doctors often recommend an over-the-counter supplement containing 1,000 IU or more of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), taken daily. Many multivitamins contain 400 IU of vitamin D.

Up to 2,000 IU in a daily vitamin D supplement is considered safe for most people without worry of toxicity. Severe deficiencies may require a prescription.

Some doctors recommend both supplements and short amounts of sun exposure, with the caveat not to burn the skin. O'Keefe said a safe approach for many patients was to take a supplement plus get a maximum 15 minutes of unprotected sun exposure. But many doctors aren't comfortable suggesting sun exposure to patients.

"I'm a big advocate for sunscreen, but I'm simultaneously a big advocate for vitamin D supplements," Aamodt said.

With help from the noonday sun, the body can make a lot of vitamin D.

It's estimated that a light-skinned person in "optimal" conditions -- 60 percent skin exposure, sitting in the sun for 30 minutes between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in warm months -- would make 10,000 IU of vitamin D.

People with darker skin have to be in the sun longer to make the same amount and thus are more likely to be deficient.

A year and a half ago, the American Academy of Pediatrics doubled its recommendation for daily vitamin D supplements for infants through adolescents, from 200 to 400 IU.

Anecdotally, Aamodt said, patients she has treated who have vitamin D levels below 10 ng/mL said they "feel better overall, have more energy with less muscle aches and pains."

Vitamin D and calcium improve bone density and reduce falls and fractures. And although many other correlations with health and disease prevention are suspected with improved vitamin D levels, the jury is still out.

"I think the data will only get better," Aamodt said. "Stay tuned."

Vitamin D levels

Many doctors consider a vitamin D blood level of 30 ng/mL as a benchmark. Below 30, and they probably will recommend a supplement. We asked local cardiologist James O'Keefe to put a finer point to the numbers. Here's his suggestion:

--40 to 70 ng/mL: Excellent

--30 to 39: Adequate

--20 to 29: Mildly deficient

--10-19: Moderately deficient

--Under 10: Severely deficient

HealthPro Nutrient's Answer - Youth D3

Youth D3 contains natural vitamin D3 which has shown to provide a major benefit in cardiovascular health & skeletal support.
D3 is normally synthesized in the body from sunlight, but due to the winter season, weather conditions, and sunscreen, the body's ability to produce optimal vitamin D3 levels are inhibited. Some believe that annual fluctuations in vitamin D3 levels explain the seasonality of the flu virus.

You May Be Too Fit To Be Healthy

Most people will want to be both fit and healthy, but therein lies a problem that people are not aware of. Most people think that fitness and health go hand in hand and that when you are fit that you are also healthy at the same time. Not so, fitness and health are two distinctly different concepts.

Fitness and health are not the same
Fitness is the ability to perform work, create physical energy, with well trained muscles and health is the absence of illness. These two are not mutually inclusive. If you concentrate on health improvement you will improve the health of muscles as well and it will improve their ability to produce energy, in other words it will improve overall fitness as well. On the other hand, if you concentrate on fitness improvement and a washboard stomach and other pleasant looking muscle groups, then your health will actually decline. That sounds crazy and totally at odds with what we have learned and what we believe about fitness and health. But that are new insight that can be better understood after reading www.PlasmaCirculation.com.

Blood circulation
Health requires better blood circulation through all the tissues in the body (vital organs, brain, joint tissue etc.) and fitness requires more blood circulation through muscles. It so happens that an increase of blood-flow through muscles will necessarily result in a decrease of blood-flow through all non-muscle cell tissues, resulting in less blood delivery to all these cell tissues. It means a decrease in delivery of nutrients, oxygen and disease fighting white blood cells (a most important part of our immune system) and that means a decrease in health and greater risk of cancer in all the cell tissues that get fewer white blood cells, oxygen and nutrients delivered to them.

Exercise creates blood flow through muscles at the expense of blood flow through all non-muscle tissue in the body (vital organs, brain etc.)

Exercise creates greater blood flow through the muscles that are producing energy during the exercise. Capillaries in the working muscles open up to a larger flow diameter. They dilate to a larger diameter as a result of lactic acid that is produced by the muscle cells that create the energy. with most exercise the flow diameter of the capillaries goes back to normal. With some exercises that greater blood flow through the fit muscles remains after the exercise when the person is no longer exercising. The blood flow through the fit muscles will still remain at a higher flow volume when the person is at rest and that means lower volume of blood through all other non-muscle cell tissues when the person is at rest and not only when that person is exercising. It means more fitness and less health.

But since most people equate fitness with health they will be wanting to do the kind of exercises that improve fitness and they will wind up decreasing their health. This explains then also why many highly fit people from the World of sports will often wind up with a lot of severe health problems in their mid-fifties and sixties and many will die in their mid fifties and sixties, many as a result of cancer. We then wonder how it is possible that these very fit people wind up with these big health problems and die, because we are stuck in the belief that fitness equals health.

Here is the explanation:
When you concentrate on creating maximum fitness, you will have to do very intense exercises that will increase blood-flow through muscles so that the increased blood-flow will deliver more “fuel” and oxygen to the muscles with which they can create more energy and perform more work (fitness). The problem is that an increase of blood-flow through these fit muscles means a decrease of blood-flow in all other cell-tissues in the body.

It now becomes clear
It now becomes clear why some very fit individuals such as athletes in certain sports are having serious health problems in their mid-fifties and sixties and why a number of them die in their mid-fifties and sixties. They have created too much permanent blood flow at rest through all their highly trained very fit muscles. Professional football players have an average lifespan of 52, much lower than the average population.

Many of the health problems are cancer related. That is also explained in http://www.plasmacirculation.com/

Low resting pulse rates
The people that have created a high degree of fitness and a lot of blood flow through highly trained muscles at rest, will have a low resting pulse rate. They now incorrectly believe that a low resting pulse rate is a good thing because it is as a result of being very fit. And since they believe that fitness means health, they will try to train for even more fitness that results in an even lower pulse rate at rest. They now are well on their way to less health and more illness. Very confusing right?

Why is their resting pulse low?
The main influence of resting pulse rate is the level of CO2 circulating in the blood. People that have developed a lot of bloodflow through muscles at rest will have less blood circulation through all non-muscle celltissues at rest. Not good for health and it makes for low levels of CO2 in the blood at rest, resulting in a low pulserate.

The Best Exercise is Explosive
Just like any other animal, the best way to keep your body in shape and your blood circulating properly is through explosive movement.  But how do you exercise like that without hurting yourself?  The answer is QuickGym.

The QuickGym / ROM machine puts you through cardio performed at such an intense level that your body will spend the rest of the day expending energy to recover from the workout. This is commonly referred to as EPOC (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption) and it means that you consume a great deal more oxygen recovering from the exercise than you would have if you'd just done a steady-state workout like jogging or walking. This means that you will be burning up to nine times more fat while sitting on the couch later that night than you would have if you'd spent an hour on the treadmill at a moderate pace.

High intensity training, also known as HIT training, has a number of benefits in addition to the reduction in training time. First of all, this type of training is far superior to steady-state exercises when it comes to increasing your VO2 max, which is the maximum amount of oxygen you can uptake during exercise.

Besides, The best exercise is the one you will do!

Chinese Wolfberries May Improve Vision Problems Brought On by Type-2 Diabetes

A Kansas State University researcher is exploring the use of Chinese wolfberries to improve vision deficiencies that are common for type-2 diabetics. Dingbo "Daniel" Lin, K-State research assistant professor of human nutrition, is studying wolfberries and their potential to improve damage to the retina.

His findings show that the fruit can lower the oxidative stress that the eye undergoes as a result of type-2 diabetes. "I would not say that wolfberries are a medicine, but they can be used as a dietary supplement to traditional treatments to improve vision," Lin said.

"Wolfberries have high antioxidant activity and are very beneficial to protect against oxidative stress caused by environmental stimuli and genetic mutations." Lin has experience in biochemistry and eye research, and he wanted to bridge his current work in nutrition with vision.

In a conversation about the eye and phytochemicals Lin had with his father, a traditional medical doctor in China, Lin decided to explore the use of wolfberries for vision improvement. "In our culture's history, we have traditional medicine literature that describes things like the wolfberry and its functions," Lin said.

Wolfberries are bright orange-red, oblong-shaped and grown in China. Lin said the fruit is known to help rebalance homeostasis, boost the immune system, nourish the liver and kidneys and improve vision. He wanted to understand the mechanisms of the wolfberry's effects on vision and started the project in July 2008.

Lin and his colleagues have found that wolfberries have high levels of zeaxanthin, lutein, polysaccharides and polyphenolics, which have been shown to improve vision, including the prevention of age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

The researchers are using dried wolfberries and examining their effects on the retina pigment epithelial cell layer. "It's the only cell layer in the far back of the retina, and it provides a fundamental support to the whole retina, just like the base of a building," Lin said. "All of the nutrients pass through that cell layer."

By using type-2 diabetic mice, the researchers are studying the effects of wolfberries on oxidative stress, one of the factors that occurs in diabetic retinopathy, which is a common complication of diabetes and the leading cause of blindness in American adults. "Oxidative stress is known as cell impairment of the production of reactive oxygen," Lin said. "Cellular oxidative stress is involved in many human diseases, such as diabetes, vision impairment and blindness."

The researchers also looked at the endoplasmic reticulum, which is where the folding process of proteins occurs in a cell. When the accumulation of unfolded protein aggregates occurs persistently, the endoplasmic reticulum is under stress.

Prolonged stress will eventually cause cell deaths, Lin said. The in vitro and in vivo studies have shown that the wolfberry's phytochemicals protect the retinal pigment epithelial cells from hyperglycemia, or high glucose.

The findings show that the fruit has local effects on oxidative stress, reactivates the enzyme AMPK and reduces endoplasmic reticulum stress." AMPK is a key enzyme in the balance of cell energy homeostasis," Lin said. "The outcome of the current research will lead to the development of dietary regimens in prevention of an eye disease."

The researchers are continuing to study wolfberries and their health benefits. Lin said wolfberries could be used as a dietary supplement, though the fruit isn't likely to be found in traditional U.S. food stores. He said consumers might find them in a Chinese food store or on the Internet.

The research is part of a fast-moving field called nutrigenomics, which studies the effects of food on gene expression and disease. Nutrients have been shown to affect gene expression, and by understanding the roles of specific nutrients and how they might cause diseases, scientists could recommend specific foods for an individual based on his or her genetics.

At K-State, other researchers collaborated on the project: Denis Medeiros, professor and department head of human nutrition; Yu Jiang, research associate in human nutrition; Edlin Ortiz, junior in life sciences, Liberal; and Yunong Zhang, a former research assistant in human nutrition. The research has been presented at the 2009 Experimental Biology conference and 2009 American Society of Cell Biology Conference.

WHAT'S IN YOUR WATER?

Your body is about 70% water. Keeping your body healthy is directly linked to hydration. You should be drinking HALF OF YOUR BODY WEIGHT in ounces of water.

A leading problem for millions of Americans, that is directly related to thousands of illnesses and diseases, is inflammation.

Click here to read the HPN blog on inflammation.

Inflammation is caused by toxins and chemicals that build up in your system. They never take a day off. Drinking lots of water every day helps flush them out.

However...

Tap Water Is NOT Safe

According to Time Magazine, tap water in America is not safe. "All told, there are about 3,000 prescription pharmaceuticals in use in the U.S. and thousands more over-the-counter drugs, not to mention creams and ointments we smear on and then shower off. 'Between cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and other sources,' says John Spatz, commissioner of Chicago's department of water management, 'there are 80,000 potential combinations of chemicals.'

Wastewater from homes gets treated at sewage plants, but it's never possible to remove every trace of drugs. What's more, sewage pipes break, septic tanks overflow, and in some parts of the U.S. "straight-piping" — which sends untreated sewage flowing directly into surface water — is still practiced. One way or another, the drugs find their way back to us."

MOST Bottled Water Is Convenient, But NOT SAFER And NOT GOOD FOR YOU
"If you repeatedly test over 100 brands of bottled water, about a third will have a problem, and if you tested tap water that often, you will find something similar," says Erik Olson, director of advocacy for the nonprofit National Resources Defense Council.

Olson adds that with the exception of a few isolated pockets of truly bad drinking water, most municipal systems and most bottled water sources are fairly equal in terms of contaminants and other health and safety issues.

Additionally, many brands of water include ingredients like salt and additional additives that prevent your body from absorbing it. The result is often a waterlogged feeling feeling--instead of refreshing and energizing you...it actually weighs you down.

Water As An Investment In Your Health
The best possible alternative is to find water that is science-based and formulated to be of the best possible benefit to your body. Why pay for just water, and especially bad water, when the water your body needs can also:

  • enhance the absorption of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, proteins and other important nutrients
  • speed fatigue recovery
  • maintain healthy circulation
  • support a healthy immune system
HealthPro Nutrient has researched, and now recommends, Evolv Water. Evolv Water has been specially formulated through a unique process that has been perfected, refined, and now patented after 15 years of scientific research. The colorless and flavorless Archaea Active™ formula combines with natural spring water to deliver the health benefits of good hydration with optimal oxygen utilization and increased stamina, energy, and endurance.

View some of Evolv's ingredients by Clicking Here

Comparing the cost of a bottle of Evolv to a bottle of water found in the grocery store is like comparing apples and oranges. With Evolv, the water is free. What you are paying for is the unique Archaea Active formula. The spring water Evolv uses is the best source for delivering nutrients throughout your body.

HealthPro Nutrient recommends drinking Evolv water instead of other bottled waters. However, a great alternative is to drink 2-3 Evolv waters each day and then supplement for the rest of your ounces with Fuji or Smart water. Remember, you need to drink HALF of your body weight in ounces of water each day.

Interesting note: Did you know that your skin is the largest organ in/on your body?  Did you know that it needs water, and lots of it, to thrive?  Don't be mean to your skin and starve it of what it needs!

Healthy Dark Chocolate Positively Affects Diabetes

Both forms of diabetes are conditions that are linked to and exacerbate other major health conditions. Numerous studies indicate that dark chocolate has a very favorable effect on blood sugar levels and the symptoms of diabetes.

How Does Dark Chocolate Minimize the Effects of Diabetes?
  • Protects blood vessels from scarring because of excess glucose and insulin
  • Minimizes symptoms of neuropathy
  • Reduces incidences of insulin resistance and glucose intolerance
  • Protects from cardiovascular symptoms related to blood-glucose abnormalities
How Does Dark Chocolate Minimize the Effects of Diabetes?
Not all chocolate is the same. Those chocolate products that use alkalized ("dutched") cocoa and that contain high amounts of sugar, oil, milk fats, and synthetic ingredients won't yield the same health benefits as healthy dark chocolate.

How Much Chocolate Should You Eat?
Recent studies on cacao have concluded that health benefits were obtained by consuming dark chocolate foods containing 600-900mg of flavonoids on a regular daily basis. Flavonoids are just one of the classes of antioxidant compounds found in abundance in cacao.

Findings from a 2008 double-blind trial in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology demonstrate that cocoa can mitigate the effects of diabetes. In the trial, diabetic subjects experienced a reversal of vascular dysfunction common to diabetics.

Why Do You...Age? Get Sick? Get Diseases?

This might seem hard to believe, but we as humans don't actually age, we don't get sick, and we don't get diseases.  Our cells do.

Our body's health is dependent on our cells' health. So to slow down aging, limit sickness, and prevent disease, we must protect and properly feed our cells.

If you were to put buttermilk in your car's gasoline tank...it would get a "disease" and stop working.

This blog is the first of several entries on this subject, as it is important for all HealthPro Nutrient customers, distributors, and friends to learn as much as possible about how your body works, and how to keep it nourished and healthy.  We have the secret to the best health care plan possible.

That health care plan is knowledge.

What Are Cells Made Of?

Cells are made up of many atoms.  When these atoms are healthy, the cells replicate (make an exact copy) and keep the body young, well, and disease free. What makes an atom healthy is that it has "paired" electrons (yellow dots).

How Do Cells Age, Get Sick, And Get Diseases?

Atoms missing an electron (yellow dot) are not just "bad", they actually destroy surrounding atoms by stealing their electrons.  An atom missing an electron is called a Free Radical. Free Radicals alter or destroy cells. Cells that die, and cells that replicate in a damaged state, are the cause or contribute to premature aging, sicknesses, and diseases such as cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, and many others.

Where Do Free Radicals Come From?
  • smoking
  • stress
  • UV rays
  • pesticides
  • pollution
  • medications
  • certain foods
  • food additives
  • x-rays
  • excessive exercise
  • chlorine
  • mercury
  • many more

Free radicals come from pollution released into our environment all over the world.

Free radicals come from pesticides and insecticides put on our plants, grass, weeds, and in our air.

Free radicals come from water treated with chlorine to make it "safe" for drinking.

One cigarette generates approximately one quadrillion free radicals (1,000,000,000,000,000).

The Solution Is Antioxidants

Antioxidants have "extra" electrons (yellow dots) that can give to free radicals, which eliminate their harmful effects.

Antioxidants are your body's defense against destructive free radicals. Therefore they are your defense against aging, sickness, and disease.

Part 2 in this series will provide you with information about how antioxidants neutralize free radicals and reduce your risk of disease.

Vitamin D Emerges as Treatment for Prostate Cancer - Cuts PSA Levels by Half

Treatment with vitamin D supplements may slow the progress of prostate cancer, according to a study published in the journal BJU International.

In the United States, prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among men, after lung cancer. Approximately 240,000 new cases are diagnosed every year, leading to 30,000 deaths.

Researchers have suspected for nearly two decades that the so-called "sunshine vitamin" may play a role in the risk and progression of prostate cancer, but no studies have previously been conducted on its usefulness as a treatment.

"It's very interesting - there has been no significant trial of vitamin D," said lead researcher Jonathan Waxman of Imperial College London. "This is a treatment which is unlikely to have significant toxicity and is a welcome addition to the therapeutic options for patients with prostate cancer."

Waxman decided to do the study when he learned of a prostate cancer patient who recovered after his wife bought vitamin D pills for him. Waxman and colleagues recruited 26 men with prostate cancer and assigned them each to take a daily vitamin D supplement. In five of the men, reductions in levels of the prostate specific antigen (PSA) were reduced.

In men with prostate cancer, PSA levels are an indicator of disease severity. One participant experienced a decrease in PSA levels less than 25 percent, two experienced decreases of between 25 and 50 percent, and two experienced decreases of more than 50 percent. In one of the participants, PSA levels remained reduced for a full 36 months.

Vitamin D is synthesized by the body upon exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight. It plays a critical role in calcium absorption and bone health, and deficiency in the vitamin can lead to rickets in children and osteoporosis in adults. Recent research has also suggested that vitamin D can help prevent autoimmune disorders and a variety of chronic diseases, including diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Some scientists have stated that if everyone increased the amount of time they spent in the sun, far more lives would be saved from cancers prevented than would be lost from increased skin cancer cases.

A light-skinned person can get enough vitamin D from getting 15 minutes of sun on the face and hands each day, while a darker skinned person might need up to 45 minutes. More sun exposure is needed at more extreme latitudes.

A connection between vitamin D and prostate cancer was first suggested in 1990, when researchers suggested that the vitamin might tie together a variety of observed risk factors for the disease. A wide body of research has demonstrated that prostate cancer risk is higher at northern latitudes (where people get less vitamin D), among older people (with reduced vitamin D synthesis) and black people (who absorb less UV rays). Researchers have also found that men diagnosed with prostate cancer in the summer or autumn, when vitamin D levels tend to be highest, have a better prognosis than men diagnosed in winter or spring.

In 1992, researchers also suggested that higher vitamin D consumption in Japan might account for lower rates of prostate cancer there, relative to the United States. Japanese men consume more fatty fish, which is high in both vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids that increase the vitamin's stability in the body, and soy, which slows the rate at which bodily vitamin D breaks down.

Since then, studies have found that many prostate cancer cells contain vitamin D receptors, and that vitamin D can inhibit the growth of some of these cells.

Researchers also hypothesize that vitamin D might inhibit the action of the androgen receptor, which produces male sex hormones that have been linked to the disease.

Vitamin D3 can be found in the HealthPro Nutrient products YouthD3, CoreMatrix and the multi-vitamin EC Men and Women formulas.

Youth D3 is also a powerful antioxidant which provides optimal protection and integrity to biological systems in the body.

Brain Health Impacts Diabetes

Think of a treatment for diabetes, and you probably think of a drug or natural therapy that targets the pancreas to help normalize blood sugar levels. Resveratrol, a phytochemical found in red grapes, has been shown to have a host of health benefits -- including improving diabetes in animal studies. But, it turns out, that's not necessarily because it benefits the pancreas. Instead, scientists have made an unexpected discovery: resveratrol's anti-diabetic properties appear to be mediated through the brain.

That's the conclusion of a new study conducted by scientists at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, that was just published in Endocrinology, a journal of The Endocrine Society. The researchers focused on sirtuins, a class of proteins activated by resveratrol that are thought to underlie many of the potential beneficial effects of calorie restriction, including promoting longevity and slowing down the aging process.

Early studies in mice have produced important evidence showing that when resveratrol activates sirtuins, diabetes is improved. While sirtuins are expressed virtually all over the body, until now researchers have remained in the dark about what tissues could be mediating resveratrol's beneficial effects on the disease.

"We know that sirtuins are expressed in parts of the brain known to govern glucose metabolism, so we hypothesized that the brain could be mediating resveratrol's anti-diabetic actions," said Roberto Coppari, PhD, of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and co-author of the study, in a statement to the media. "To test the hypothesis, we assessed the metabolic consequences of delivering resveratrol directly into the brain of diabetic mice. We found that resveratrol did activate sirtuins in the brain of these mice which resulted in improving their high levels of blood sugar and insulin. These findings may lead to new strategies in the fight against type 2 diabetes."

Dr. Coppari and his research team found that long-term infusion of resveratrol into the brains of diet-induced obese and diabetic mice normalized the animals' hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and greatly improved the rodents' hyperinsulinemia (excess levels of circulating insulin in the blood). The scientists noted in their research paper that these beneficial effects were independent of changes in the lab animals' body weight, food intake, and circulating levels of leptin (a hormone that helps regulate appetite and metabolism).

Resveratrol -- which is found in red wine, red grapes and grape juice -- has been found to promote health in a remarkable number of ways. In addition to preventing heart disease, it can help maintain a healthy weight, keep cholesterol in balance and even support increased longevity). More on Inflammation: What You Don't Know May Kill You

America is in the middle of a health crisis. Over the last two decades, our society has seen a dramatic increase in conditions such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and arthritis. In fact, chronic disease accounts for approximately 75% of deaths in people over 65.

What is on thing these conditions have in common?

A primary underlying cause of these conditions is chronic inflammation.

What Is Inflammation?
Most of us think of inflammation as the swelling that accompanies a sprained ankle or insect bite. This type of inflammation is acute and part of the body's healthy response to injury or illness. But when inflammation is present for long periods of time, it causes problems...often big problems.

What Causes Chronic Inflammation?
Usually, this is a result of how we live. Our diets have too much fat, sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, and chemicals. All of these can injure the body's cells and tissues. Our environment exposes us to hundreds of toxins and chemicals every day. Pharmaceutical drugs, alcohol, smoking, excessive sunlight, household cleaners...the list goes on and on. They all create free radicals that damage our cells, tissues, and organs...which ultimately result in the body creating an inflammatory response.

Which Conditions Can Chronic Inflammation Contribute To?
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Dementia
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Irritable bowel syndrome/digestive disorders
  • Fibromyalgia and other autoimmune disorders
Which HPN Products Help?
Most HPN products help with inflammation because they are focused on creating wellness by balancing your system, feeding you the nutrients you need, and addressing from the inside the negative factors you are living with on the outside.

Indulge...Just Be Prepared

Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday for showing appreciation to those we love and live our lives with. We want to celebrate and we don't want to think about whether we ate too much, or how much sugar our bodies are trying to process, or whether or not we should have that extra piece of pie. Honestly, who can say no to one more piece of Grandma's Pumpkin Pie? Or better yet, who should?

We say eat all you want this holiday season...just be prepared!

The HealthPro Nutrient Detox Program is formulated to help your body process what you eat.

Why Is This Important?

Because of genetics, diet, lifestyle, processed foods, and toxic environments, we are all at risk for compromised digestion. This often leads to weakened immune function, fatigue, hormone imbalance, digestive disorders, and disease.

Our Detox bundle addresses all of these issues and more, leading to a more balanced and efficient digestive and immune system.

Why Are 5 Products Necessary?

Each of these products have a different purpose, and provide a different level of support, working together to create a cohesive and complete system of support. This also allows you to control your dosage of each product according to your very specific needs.  for instance, someone who has just taken antibiotics may want to take the maximum dosage of Probiotic.

Also, some ingredients, like those you will find in Life Line or ClearBody, are best served in liquid form and therefore don't travel as well.  If you are traveling this holiday, you can take Probiotic, Digestive Enzymes, and Regulier with you as they pack easily and won't cause any headache at the airport.

What Does Each Product Do?

ClearBody clears our body of toxins, enhances our metabolism, and increases endurance.

Digestive Enzymes are the catalyst which allows us to break down foods into absorbable nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids and fatty acids. Digestive Enzymes help to promote a healthy stomach.

Probiotic provides the good bacteria essential for maintaining a healthy immune system and helping to maintain normal intestinal balance that can be disrupted by stress, disease, poor nutrition, toxins, and medications (i.e. antibiotics) resulting in intestinal and systemic health disturbances.

Regulier is an herbal formulation that establishes healthy elimination of toxins and free radicals to maintain a healthy balance in the body. Regulier contains Calcium Bentonite Clay, the body's natural pH balancer.

LifeLine has the very best antioxidant compounds available for cell enhancement, weight managment, and mitochondrial support (mitochondria are sometimes described as "cellular power plants" because they generate most of the cell's supply of chemical energy.)

Don't just take Tums because of an upset stomach.  There is a REASON your stomach is upset, or that you have heart-burn.  There is also a REASON they call it WASTE!  You want to get rid of it!  You want your body to process what you eat in a way so that the heart-burn, upset stomach, and myriad of other symptoms don't show up in the first place!

A Pre-New Year's Resolution

If your New Year's Resolution is going to be to "get healthy" or "lose weight", give yourself the best chance of not only starting that goal, but finishing it.  Don't "wait until the holidays are over".  Prepare your body for the increased consumption of refined sugars, calories, and fat.  Get your digestive and immune system primed so that you can process it better.  It will be much easier to keep your resolutions if you do.  Not doing so is like putting two soldiers up against an army and asking them to sort of "chip away" at the oncoming slaughter.

Why HealthPro Nutrient?

Just keep in mind this one last fact...our bodies are amazing machines, capable of amazing things.  But our world and our habits, or lifestyles and behaviors, wear these amazing systems down.  They need help.

That's where we come in.  Our Goal at HealthPro Nutrient is your wellness.  And our products are the best, scientifically designed by doctors who understand the inner-workings of our bodies and what's missing or lacking.  Also, our prices are reasonable and if you like the products, you have the opportunity to pass on that message and earn money for doing so!  We think of it as a customer-owned company.

Get To Know Vitamin D

Vitamin D has received a lot of attention lately. As its health implications become more and more apparent through research, it is becoming evident that a significant proportion of the population has inadequate blood levels of the vitamin. It is estimated that up to 58% of US adolescents and adults are deficient. Chronic vitamin D deficiency and its consequences represent a major public health challenge. This article is intended to increase understanding of vitamin D and promote awareness of its connection to health and well-being, through a series of questions and answers.

What is Vitamin D?

Vitamin D actually refers to a number of distinct, but related compounds. Differentiating between these compounds is necessary in order to fully appreciate this important substance. When exposed to sunlight, the skin synthesizes cholecalciferol, or vitamin D3. Cholecalciferol can also be taken as a supplement. After it is produced in the skin or ingested, it undergoes a two-step modification by the liver and kidneys. The first step yields calcidiol, which serves as an intermediate, storage form. Calcidiol is later activated to become calcitriol, which functions as a steroid hormone in the body.

Why is Vitamin D Important?

Vitamin D has been synthesized by life on earth for more than 750 million years. This fact alone suggests that vitamin D is a fundamental component of physiology and health. The vitamin D receptor (VDR) is located inside virtually every cell in the body. It is the target of activated calcitriol. After calcitriol binds to its receptor, the resulting complex functions to regulate DNA expression. This process affects more than 2000 genes. Some genes are activated and others are suppressed by the action of vitamin D. Through such genetic control, vitamin D ultimately directs the activity of hundreds of enzymes and proteins. This is perhaps the strongest evidence for its vital role.

What are the Effects of Vitamin D?

Vitamin D is well known for its role in calcium absorption and bone metabolism. However, this is only one of many important health benefits that vitamin D has to offer. It is also known for its anti-inflammatory effects, anti-cancer activity and its ability to strengthen the immune system. The capacity to regulate DNA itself means that vitamin D influences the very foundations of biochemistry, giving it the power to positively impact all body systems and harness the body's innate healing ability.

What Evidence Exists for the Benefits of Vitamin D?

Vitamin D deficiency has been associated with at least 17 varieties of cancer, along with many other chronic diseases including heart disease, diabetes, depression, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia and chronic pain. This may appear to be a tremendous claim. However, the relationship between vitamin D and disease is easy to recognize once you understand that it is integrated into our physiology, acting as one of the keys to normal cellular activity.

FOCUS ON BRAIN HEALTH: Vitamin B12 Deficiency can Look Identical to Alzheimer's Disease

The article below talks about the dangers of a Vitamin B12 deficiency.  Vitamin B12 can be found in the HealthPro Nutrient brain formulas:
HPN uses the optimal and more expensive form of vitamin B12 called methylcobalamin.
For optimal brain health also look to Omega 3-6-9, C+CoQ10, and LifeLine.

============================================================================

When is Alzheimer`s Disease NOT Alzheimer`s Disease? When it`s actually caused by undiagnosed Vitamin B12 deficiency. This frequent occurrence is a tragedy in our society where growing numbers of those with Alzheimer`s Disease are diagnosed every year. Despite having IDENTICAL symptoms in many cases, vitamin B12 deficiency is almost NEVER considered as a possible cause.

Alzheimer`s Disease is a growing personal and family problem as well as a HUGE financial burden for society. And with over 4 million people in the US alone who have been diagnosed with this 'incurable' disease, Alzheimer`s Disease is becoming an ever growing crisis. Governments around the world are attempting to combat this problem by spending millions of dollars every year on research for drugs, stem cell treatment, genetic manipulation and pharmaceuticals- yet nothing has been found to effectively stop or slow its insidious spread. However, doctors in clinical practice are completely overlooking a SIMPLE cause of this problem that could stop the disease in its tracks. The scientific evidence is VERY CLEAR that the symptoms of Alzheimer`s Disease could be RADICALLY improved in many cases if a trial of high dose vitamin B12 were instituted soon after diagnosis.

Vitamin B12 deficiency, also called cobalamin deficiency, becomes more and more common as people get older and some researchers estimate that over 800,000 elderly in the US have undiagnosed deficiency. Yet because few clinicians are trained to look for its symptoms, many elderly who SHOULD be screened for this simple vitamin deficiency are, instead, diagnosed with `incurable` neurologic diseases. These mental changes from vitamin B12 deficiency were first described as far back as 1902, with much research having been done since that time. Many times, these changes are accompanied by lesions and degeneration of the brain and spinal cord on medical imaging that doctors use as evidence of the irreversible nature of this disease. Astoundingly, when these degenerative changes are caused by Vitamin B12 Deficiency, they are actually REVERSIBLE if high dose therapy is started soon after diagnosis!

Not only is medical imaging worthless in determining which cases will benefit from Vitamin B12 therapy, but blood testing has little value either. Since the 1950's, several studies have shown that cases of dementia that respond well to vitamin B12 therapy often have completely normal Vitamin B12 blood tests. Yet 50 years later, doctors still rely EXCLUSIVELY on blood testing and medical imaging to determine the need for Vitamin B12 therapy. These studies are clearly showing that a trial regimen of high dose vitamin B12 is absolutely warranted with cases of new onset dementia regardless of the results of medical testing. Yet modern medicine is simply NOT paying attention, and this extraordinarily safe therapy that costs less than $100 is virtually NEVER instituted. As a result, Alzheimer`s patients who COULD have benefited if B12 therapy were instituted soon after diagnosis are left with no memory and no hope.
